Choosing among new SQE providers. Navigating the new Wild West.

The introduction of the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) has led to a surge of new providers offering SQE preparation courses. While this has expanded choice for aspiring solicitors, it also brings risks—not all courses provide the quality, support, and practical training needed to succeed. Many new providers rely on pre-recorded content or AI-generated materials with little human supervision. While these may seem convenient, they often lack the depth and guidance necessary for effective legal training.

At Freedom Law Clinic, we have been training law students since 2015. We saw the SQE as an opportunity to make legal education more practical and relevant. That’s why we developed a combined SQE and QWE (Qualifying Work Experience) programme, designed to integrate both academic knowledge and real-world legal skills. Our approach ensures that students not only pass the SQE but also gain the hands-on experience needed to begin their legal careers with confidence.

Unlike larger providers, we are a small, specialist team offering live, small-group seminars led by experienced lawyers. Some of our tutors are now members of the Judiciary, demonstrating the quality of expertise available to our students. This means our students benefit from direct engagement, structured feedback, and a truly interactive learning experience. We also take exam readiness seriously—every student receives a personalised assessment to determine when they should sit the SQE, ensuring they do not take the exam prematurely and risk unnecessary failure.

Failing SQE 1 can be costly, both in terms of time and money. That’s why we believe in a structured, supervised approach, rather than simply offering an online course without personal oversight. We provide students with the academic knowledge, practical skills, and individual guidance they need to succeed.

If you are considering SQE training, we invite you to get in touch for an initial consultation to discuss the best approach for your studies. You can also join our free WhatsApp group, where we share free SQE resources to help you get started. Choosing the right SQE provider is crucial—make sure you are getting the support and expertise you need.
