Freedom Law Clinic - sqe preparation and pro bono opportunities

SUMMER 2022:
Your future as a lawyer

Join our summer programme of online events looking at alternative routes
into practise and the skills that you need to make the leap from student to practitioner.

Each year the clinic hosts a series of free events around topical issues in the legal sphere. This year we are looking at alternative routes into practice and developing the skills you need to make the leap from law student to practitioner.

With the recent introduction of the Bar Training Course, the new SQE route to qualification as a solicitor, not to mention the disruption to careers plans caused by the Covid pandemic – we will be looking at how lawyers past, present and future make their way into the law and the alternative and sometimes inventive ways of being a ‘lawyer’ in the 21st century.

The programme will consist of a combination of panel discussions, Q&A sessions and practical skills workshops covering advocacy and client handling.

At the end of the programme, participants will be given a bundle of case material and have the opportunity to prepare advocacy and conference tasks which will then be assessed in an online ‘face-to-face’ setting in September 2022.

We will be announcing the full programme and opening for general bookings from 20 May 2022. All sessions will be delivered via Zoom and places for each session will be limited, so please pre-register for access to priority booking on 18 May.

Practise your advocacy and client conference skills

For participants who complete the follow up activities there will be an opportunity to practise oral advocacy and client conference skills with practitioners playing the role of a judge and actors in the role of the client. These sessions will take place on Friday 2nd, Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th September 2022 and participants will receive written feedback on their performance.

All of our summer festival programmes are free of charge.
