QWE and Practical Skills
A new approach to legal education
Most law students are not ready for the realities of legal work. During a law degree, practical education is minimal. Many graduates arrive in law-related roles with little or no practical skill. That means they can do all the work of securing an opportunity in law, only to lose it because they lack the basic abilities employers expect.
This subscription-based programme is designed to give you a clear understanding of your practical legal strengths — and where you need to improve. You’ll start by working on Red Tier cases. These are historic matters that provide the perfect environment to test and demonstrate your abilities. You will complete a set piece of work to a deadline, and your submission will be reviewed by a qualified solicitor.

Your work will be assessed against three key criteria:
1.
Legal writing – Can you communicate clearly, concisely, and persuasively?
2.
Legal analysis – Do you think critically about the case and support your conclusions with sound reasoning?
3.
Legal knowledge – Does your work reflect a solid grasp of the wider justice system?
If your work needs improvement, we’ll tell you exactly how to get there. We may also give you an additional case to work on. You’ll continue submitting and receiving detailed, structured feedback until you reach Green Tier status.
Green Tier students have achieved a professional standard that means they can be trusted in front of clinic clients. At this stage, you’ll receive:
- A professional reference;
- A clinic email address;
- The opportunity to work on live clinical cases under the supervision of a solicitor;
- The ability to start accumulating Qualifying Work Experience towards the SQE.
Our current Green Tier students are gaining experience in:
- Immigration
- Housing
- Criminal appeals
- Fitness to practice

Our subscription model
This is a subscription course. That means you can start and stop as you please. The monthly subscription for red tier is £70 per month which covers your feedback and the course resources, which are regularly updated. This increases to £195 per month once you reach green tier, as you will be working directly with a qualified solicitor who will review your QWE.
