We are offering the chance to take part in a competition to test your written advocacy skills by considering the case of R v Y – a joint enterprise murder conviction from 2012.
Following a failed application to the CCRC, Y has asked us to review recent case law and advise on the implications of R v Jogee (2016) and the threshold for substantial injustice deriving from R v Johnson (2016).
Your challenge is to draft a full advice on potential grounds of appeal.
Submissions must be completed individually and deal comprehensively with the issues in the case.
Entries will be judged by a panel and the winner will be invited to record a podcast with lawyers involved in the case to discuss some of the challenges in appealing joint enterprise cases.
Please use the form below to register your interest in the competition. We will be releasing a briefing sheet and the client’s case papers at noon on Friday 5 March 2021. You will receive an email with full instructions.
